A Softer Way To Slow Down: Inside Sohum Wellness Sanctuary
What if your next massage began with sound healing, rose-infused water and a moment to simply breathe? At Sohum Wellness Sanctuary, a medium-pressure treatment became more than an hour of relaxation, with thoughtful rituals, Ayurvedic influences and targeted attention to the shoulders and neck leaving me feeling genuinely restored.

September in Dubai has a particular energy to it. The slower pace of summer starts to disappear, holidays come to an end and suddenly the diary is full again. Meetings, plans, deadlines and social commitments return almost overnight. It is exactly the kind of moment when you realise you could do with a little time to yourself and that is where Sohum Wellness Sanctuary comes in.

Tucked away from the intensity of the city, Sohum brings together Ayurveda, spa treatments, yoga, meditation, sound healing, creative workshops and plant-based dining, creating a space where wellness feels less like something you have to squeeze into your schedule and more like somewhere you can actually spend time.
I visited the wellness space for a massage, but the experience began well before the massage itself. Rather than immediately asking me to lie down on the massage bed, my therapist began with sound healing. It was a small but significant change from the usual spa routine, giving me a few moments to switch off before the treatment even started.

Then came another unexpected detail: the massage began with me lying on my front. Usually, massages start with you on your back, but at Sohum the treatment immediately focused on what my body actually needed. My shoulders and neck are where I tend to hold the most tension, so my therapist paid particular attention to these areas.
The pressure was medium, exactly what I had chosen, and the treatment had a lovely sense of rhythm to it. There was no feeling of being rushed from one technique to the next. Instead, it felt considered, particularly around my shoulders, upper back and neck, the places that had clearly been asking for some attention.

One of my favourite details came before the massage itself. My therapist washed my feet in warm water infused with roses before gently exfoliating them. It is such a simple ritual, but it immediately changed the atmosphere. There was something wonderfully old-fashioned about it, in the best possible way, a reminder that wellness does not always need to involve the latest technology or an elaborate treatment. Sometimes it is warm water, flowers and someone taking the time to care for you properly. That sense of ritual continues throughout the massage.
The sanctuary uses Rituals products, which I particularly loved, adding another sensory layer to the experience. Combined with the sound healing, warm rose foot ritual and massage, it made the treatment feel more like a sequence of small moments rather than simply an hour on a massage bed.

While the massage was the reason for my visit, it quickly became apparent that Sohum Wellness Sanctuary is designed for something much bigger than a single treatment.
Ayurveda sits at the heart of the sanctuary, with consultations and traditional treatments including Abhyanga and Shirodhara, alongside international massage techniques, yoga, meditation, saunas and plunge pools. The idea is that you can make your visit as simple or as immersive as you want. Perhaps a morning yoga class before work, a massage after returning from a trip, or an entire day dedicated to doing very little.
There is also a strong community element to the space. Sohum Wellness Sanctuary’s calendar brings together sound sessions, new- and full-moon gatherings, cacao experiences, guided journaling and creative workshops such as candle-making. One of the highlights this month is Symphony of Healers, taking place on September 27, bringing different wellness modalities together for an afternoon of exploration and connection.

Sohum Wellness Sanctuary also has a café that offers an organic, plant-based menu, while the sanctuary can also be used for birthdays, private celebrations and corporate gatherings. Private classes, creative workshops, team sessions and wellness vouchers give the space a social dimension without losing its underlying sense of calm.
For me, though, it was the little details that stayed with me most: the sound at the beginning, the warm water and roses, the gentle foot scrub and the fact that my therapist immediately worked on the areas where I actually hold the most tension.
In a city that can make slowing down feel surprisingly difficult, Sohum Wellness Sanctuary offers something increasingly valuable: permission to pause.
