7 Things To Know Before You Get Hair Extensions That Actually Survive in Dubai’s Humidity and

Anyone who has worn hair extensions in Dubai will recognise what happens when the humidity rises. After an hour at the beach, an afternoon by the pool or simply a humid day, fine natural hair begins to lift and expand while extension hair can remain flat and straight beneath it. Beauty Club London, top hair extension salon in Dubai has built its reputation on solving exactly this problem. The difference in texture and movement creates a visible separation between the natural hair and the extensions, however carefully they may have been fitted.

Louise Bailey and Moe Harb, founders of Beauty Club London share what you should know before you book your next hair extension.

7 Things To Know Before You Get Hair Extensions That Actually Survive in Dubai’s Humidity and

1. Colour match isn’t the whole job, texture and weight matter just as much

Texture, weight and the way hair responds to humidity matter as much as colour, because any mismatch becomes visible once the natural hair and the extension hair start moving differently. This is especially true for fine hair types — common among West Asian and European clients in Dubai — which react strongly to humidity. If the extension hair is coarser, or synthetic, it can behave very differently to the client’s own.

“A lot of extensions in Dubai fail the eye test in humidity,” says Louise Bailey, co-founder of Beauty Club London. “Either the hair is the wrong type for the client, so it sits lank while her own hair frizzes and you can see exactly where one stops and the other starts. Or the application and the cut are not right, so when her hair expands you get a mushroom of natural hair sitting on top with the extensions hanging out beneath it.”

2. Ask whether the hair is double-drawn, it changes how it moves

Natural hair isn’t one uniform length; at any point, a head of hair holds strands at different stages of growth, which is part of what gives it natural shape and movement. Double-drawn extension hair strips out the shorter strands for a uniform length and density, which can look heavier and blunter against fine natural hair. Hair with a graduated mix of lengths connects more naturally — and because it carries more volume, less of it is needed to build thickness, meaning less extra weight on the natural hair.

3. The attachment method matters as much as the hair itself

How the extensions are attached decides whether they stay hidden once your hair starts to move. A wider, flat tape attachment with medical-grade adhesive, weighted to match the density of the natural hair underneath, and kept clear of the hairline and any hair with a short growth phase, spreads the load across a flat surface rather than twisting a small section of hair, the way a bond or ring does. That is what keeps it lying flat and discreet even when the surrounding hair lifts in humidity.

4. Get your colour and extensions done in one appointment, not two

Colourists and extension specialists working in the same room means hair is colour-matched and fitted in a single sitting, rather than the natural hair being processed twice across two salons. A consultation is free, and a full head can be fitted the same afternoon.

“The test of an extension is not the mirror on the day it is fitted and styled in the salon,” says Moe Harb, co-founder of Beauty Club London. “It is a humid Tuesday in July with the hair up, or the day you let your hair dry naturally without a tong to hide the layers that were never connected properly. Most of the hair sold in this city was never going to pass that, because it was made for a different hair type in a different climate. We make ours, we colour it and we fit it in one room.”

5. The real test is humidity, swimming and air-drying, not the salon mirror

Worn down, pinned up, wet from the pool or dried naturally, extensions should move as part of the hair, not sit as a separate layer.

“We built our hair and our application to support fine hair with zero visibility, because that is what our clients here need,” says Bailey. “Go swimming, put it up, walk out of the sea. Nobody can tell.”

6. Know your refit schedule ,and how long the hair actually lasts

Tape extensions are refitted every six to eight weeks, in around an hour, with the same hair reusable for up to a year. Bonded extensions last up to four months. At removal, a gentle alcohol-based solution dissolves the adhesive in minutes with no residue and consultation and removal are both free at Beauty Club London salon.

Tape hair extensions, including hair and fitting, start at around AED 1,500 for volume and rise to AED 11,000 and above for a full head at the longest lengths. Beauty Club London is located at Metropolitan Hotel, Thanya Street, Sheikh Zayed Road, Dubai.
